چکیده

The focus of this report was to assess the role of passive immunization using immunoglobulins derived from chicken egg yolk in protection against M. gallisepticum infection in chickens. Immunoglobulins were produced by egg yolk technology. ELISA was used to evaluate their immunoreactivity and western immunoblotting demonstrated that chicken egg yolk immunoglobulins Y (IgY) were capable of recognizing M. gallisepticum immunoreactive antigens. Administration of IgY to experimentally infected broiler chickens afforded up to 70% protection rate as confirmed by culture analyses. Challenge of IgY treated birds with M. gallisepticum virulent strain S6 revealed significantly (P< 0.05) lower isolation prevalence in comparison to control chickens treated with IgY from mock-immunized (control) hens that received the same bacterial challenge. Additionally, M. gallisepticum culture analysis from respiratory organs demonstrated that these antibodies protected chickens in a dose-dependent pattern against M. gallisepticum infection (i.e., increasing IgY titer resulted in decreased isolation rate). These findings demonstrate that IgY obtained from hens immunized by M. gallisepticum could provide an alternative approach for treatment of M. gallisepticum infection in chickens.

Isolation and Molecular Characterization of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae in Chickens in Sudan

The current study described the isolation and molecular detection of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) and Mycoplasma synoviae from tracheal swabs of diseased birds showing signs of respiratory distress in selected commercial (layer and broiler) farms and from yolk and an open air of pens of vaccinated breeder flocks in Sudan. A number of 45 Mycoplasma isolates were recovered from chickens in Khart...

Effects of prelay ts11-strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum inoculation and time-specific F-Strain M. gallisepticum inoculation overlays on internal egg and eggshell characteristics of commercial laying hens.

Mycoplasma infections are pandemic in multiage layer chicken flocks, with Mycoplasma gallisepticum being the species of greatest concern to commercial egg producers. Live M. gallisepticum vaccines are presently being used to help control M. gallisepticum outbreaks. However, vaccination of layers with F-strain M. gallisepticum may adversely affect egg production. In the present study, 2 trials w...

Effects of F-strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum inoculation at twelve weeks of age on egg yolk composition in commercial egg laying hens.

In two trials, the effects of F-strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum (FMG) on the contents of egg yolks from commercial Single Comb White Leghorn laying hens were investigated over a production cycle. Ten hens were assigned to each of 8 (trial 1) or 16 (trial 2) negative pressure fiberglass biological isolation units. Birds in half of the total units served as sham-inoculated controls, and those in ...

13) Evaluation of an Egg Yolk Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay Antibody Test and Its Use to Assess the Prevalence of Mycoplasma Gallisepticum Infection in Laying Hens in Italy

The prevalence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum infection in commercial layers was established by the presence of antibodies in eggs. Saline-extracted yolks were used with a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. For the prevalence study, yolks from 30 eggs were obtained from each of 66 flocks coming from 36 layer farms. The prevalence of egg antibodies to Mycoplasma gallisepticum was 33....
